In his 38th year of university teaching, the still-energetic Stanley Baran maintains an active life on campus and off. Among Bryant's most popular teachers, this Fulbright Scholar is the author of one of America's best-selling introductory mass communication texts, Introduction to Mass Communication: Media Literacy and Culture, and the country's top advanced mass communication theories book, Mass Communication Theory: Foundations, Ferment, and Future. As he says, "I initiate them as freshman and I send them off as seniors." Centrally involved in Bryant's move into graduate education in the Arts & Sciences, Baran also supports the faculty union through membership on its Executive Committee. Off campus, he is a tenor saxophonist in his town's concert band and a skilled and enthusiastic home landscaper. His greatest day-to-day pleasure is his wife’s Italian cuisine, accompanied by a glass of Chianti. Stanley is married to Susan Baran, another Bryant faculty member, and has 2 children, Jordan and Matt, who are also on campus. This makes them a true Bryant family.
